October 2009

So let’s see, what does the camera say I did in October?

Oh! I baked biscotti with lemon zest and candied ginger. Yum.

I bought some little potted herbs and put them on a sunny window sill.

Parsley, basil, oregano, rosemary.

There were some late bloomers in the garden.

Pretty little wild asters.

And I think this is the silliest flower ever.

Those plants are about 8 feet tall. They are growing at the bottom of a steep slope near the driveway.

I presume this was a second bloom on the spirea, and whatever this other shrub is. Anyone?

IMG_1569 This burning bush was beautiful.

And the vine on the garage too. All gone now.

The elderberry behind the wood shed was magnificent.

Even the slime mold was pretty.

And there was a magic time in the morning when the brook outflow caught the sun.

On a particularly warm day there were a final few dragonflies,

ladybugs looking for hiding places,

and birthday socks for the youngest hanging on the line.

The summer birds are gone, but the winter birds are plentiful.

I cleaned the garage and workshop of a summer’s-worth of spider webs, mouse droppings, and flies.

IMG_1636And when I went to use my shop vac, I found this little guy all snuggled up to the hose like he’d found his mom.

And finally, Halloween evening looked like this.

wha??? 'overestimate' our Norma? no way. I figure she has all the answers, it's just a matter of retrieval of data from her brain :^)
I keep looking for this plant/shrub..
You asked if we get snow, we do, not much and when it does snow it's great cause for celebration, even if it's only me celebrating :^) We get all sort of weather here, everything except hurricanes.

What a wonderful photo essay!

Marianne overestimates me, because I do not know what that other shrub is....Oh, wait....maybe I do. I think it might be Penstemon, but I'm weak on that. (spellcheck does not like that, so perhaps I have spelled it wrong)

Mmmmm, yum. Again, great photos. that shrub? are the undersides of the leaves purple-ish? looks familiar. Norma should know :^)
I had one of those little guys on my back walk way, he was probably looking for his mama too, he sure could move fast I'll say that :^)
