It's a Squeaker
...but I'm determined not to have a one-post month. My apologies to Fig, who was probably expecting something else.
As I think I have said before, it is a good thing that I take pictures between blogging, or I would have no idea what I have done since January 1. But when I looked back at the photo record, this is what I found.

First FO of 2008

Toe-up socks with Turkish peasant afterthought heel, in Apple Pie yarn from Applelaine, colour Godiva.
First Frogged Object of 2008

A sleeve for a Cobblestone sweater for the boy. The yarn I am using is DK weight Peace Fleece. I made an error in calculating the increases and they ended earlier than I wanted, plus I didn't like the way the garter stitch band was slightly wider than the stockinette just above it. See?

I knew this would happen, since the pattern calls for a single needle size throughout and garter stitch WILL knit up wider than stockinette, but I thought maybe it wouldn't bother me. That brings me to the ...
First Reknit Object of 2008

Much better, I think. The stockinette is knit on 3.50 mm needles and the garter stitch on 3.25 mm. That's all it takes sometimes.
First Return Trip to Sleeve Island of 2008

Now the body of the sweater is underway. I used the smaller needle size for the garter stitch here too. I'm reserving that decision vis a vis the garter stitch yoke until I get there. It will be a while.

As you can see, I had help with all the knitting and reknitting. (Fig, Marx says hi!).
And Lennon.

We also have a new pet...

Meet Smotch.

We found Smotch on the kitchen floor one afternoon about a week ago. It is quite a mystery how he got there. Smotch is living a very contented life in an old jam jar, with fresh lettuce and cucumber every couple of days. And the best part? I'm not the one looking after this pet. Youngest child is quite enamoured of the little critter and even lets him out for a crawl on her desk from time to time. This is how she discovered that snails can eat paper. Yes, the snail nearly ate her homework. Now he goes for a crawl on the rim of his jar lid (around and around and around...).
One last WIP to show you:

This will be a mitten for my older brother who has a birthday coming up soon. As he is an avid photographer, he requested mittens with a separate forefinger. The yarn is big squooshy Blue Face Aran from Fleece Artist. Lovely stuff. Blooms beautifully when washed. More on this next time.

You will not be surprised to know that Twinkletoes LOVES Smotch.
I didn't even make the one post a month goal this past month...I'm determined not to make February the same blogless wasteland over here...
How do you do that scribbly thing you were doing on the tea cozy? Wicked cool!
I love Peace Fleece DK. I have a sweater waiting for bands and buttons out of it, but it has been waiting for a while.....
Doesn't the snail kinda heeby jeeby you out? A little?
Hello! Sorry I didn't find my way to say hi at the last Guild meeting hopefully next time. I love your snail story! How charming. I love the Cobblestone pattern and so glad to see you making one. Lovely colour! Your cats are beautiful. I wish I had one too!
Wool be with you
I love purposed mittens. I'm a big fan of the fliptops. I must have three patterns for them, but end up buying them at skishops, or fiberfairs.
I'm impressed with the sleeve cuff/arm difference.
No one would believe the snail story.
Hi Paula! I finally found your blog. Y'all come down to Jackson sometime -- we have a new store with Fleece Artist(!!) _and_ NHL on the tube. I think I'll be able to coerce, I mean, convince Dave to come with me for a while to _this_ (Canadian-owned) shop....
Sarah
I'm intrigued by the photographer mittens. I made some fingerless mitts for a friend, and her husband requested a pair with a thumb and first finger but the rest together in the mitt part. I think I've figured out a method to do it now, so I'm ready to get started.
I was thinking the same thing as Norma re: the homework... the snail ate it. I must say I am most impressed with your child taking care of Smotch!
Lovely socks, and I agree, those sleeves look much better... is this for Ben? I was watching the news last night, they're getting a LOT of snow, eh?
The mitten is great.
I stopped by, just yesterday..... I was delighted to see you 'highlighted' on my bloglines! Oh about those ice sheets... no mere icicles for you! gorgeous and I especially love the way it morphed itself, heh. When my kids were small we'd detach those babies and make castles etc...out of them.
Stay warm :^)
I love Smotch! He's lucky he wasn't SMUSHED. But he could really create THE most original forgotten homework excuse. The snail ate my homework sounds so much more creative than that old overused "dog" thing. :)
