What I Did on My Summer Vacation (part 2)
Monday, July 16
After a fine breakfast of coffee and home-made granola with yogurt, Leslie opened up the studio and we began our beginner spinning workshop. First we did a little fibre preparation using hand cards, then we used a drop spindle to spin some wool "in the grease" and some that was clean. Voila. Yarn!
A little bit of yarn, but yarn nonetheless.
Next, it was on to the wheels. But first here is a view of the studio from outside.
Leslie loves purple. That's her in the studio doorway, and Sarah standing on the left.
This is the first wheel that I spun on, a Nilus Leclerc.
. It was a little tricky to treadle smoothly. We spun various kinds of wool. Spun and plied, spun and plied.
Tuesday, July 17
We spun in the morning and then, because it was such a beautiful day we went beach walking. First we went to East Chezzetcook where we walked along a cobble shore and then sat and watched the surf .
I picked up several nice rocks including a couple that looked like little PEI potatoes. The big yellowish oval one is about 11.5 cm/4.5 inches long.
And then, I found the best rock a knitter could ever hope to find.
Still more to come.

Golly! The beauty of it all is unreal. Then spinning and knitting on top of it all? Lucky.
Hey-do you not love those Mephistos? I have several pair and wear them out.
and I *meant* to add...
I am loving all those rocks! I had to admit that I also collect rocks and have drawers full, boxes of rocks.....love the rocks.
What a beautiful place, and what a fabulous time to be had! Lucky you!
