Exciting News!
I'm going to be teaching at one of our local yarn shops! Over the fall and winter I will be teaching three courses: Beginners Knitting, Teen Beginners Knitting, and Introduction to Felting (Bowls and Baskets). So I have been swatching like crazy and knitting samples for the first course. I think a baby sweater will be the main project. I've got my first crack at it (in leftover Decor) nearly done and will hopefully be able to post a photo tomorrow.
In other knitting...
Before I found out I would be teaching I had started to make some squares for Annette's Blanket. Yay, more stash busting, this time with some very old DK weight cotton. I think I've had this stuff for about 10 years. I knit a little dress for my now 16-year old daughter. Since she gave up wearing dresses after kindergarten, um yeah, it's old yarn! But nice yarn. I figured that with all the more fancy squares people were sending in that a few plain ones would be good.
So the first one I did was just seed stitch. 64 square inches (8x8) of seed stitch. A bit tedious, but nice and nubbly. Then I decided that something a bit quicker would be good, but I didn't want to do plain garter stitch (I may still do one of those too though) so I chose Garter Slip Stitch I from my old Harmony Guide. I really like it!
Better daylight photos soon. But in any case, it has a great waffle-like texture. In wool or finer cotton it would make an awesome baby blanket.

Hi Paula, I am knitting like crazy to get the baby sweater done by our last class but have come across a small snag - joining in the wool for the start of the second sleeve. I find where I am joining (I am joining simply by using the wool like it has been there the whole time) has made a very loose stich which gets looser every stich I progress. Is there a trick here I am missing?
Thanks!
Congrats on the classes -- sounds like a lot of fun!
Thats awesome! Congrats!
