Hey.
Welcome to my blog. As you can see, there's not much here at the moment, but hopefully it will soon fill up with words and pictures, mostly about knitting. But hey, there is more to life than knitting. Or so I've heard.
I live in Ottawa, Ontario, the capital city of Canada and on this midsummer evening it is still hot (28 °C - that's 82 °F for any American readers out there) and with the humidity it feels like 36 °C (97 °F). Perfect conditions for producing what the Yarn Harlot refers to as "country singer hair". It is days like this that make me thankful for air conditioning, but I don't overdo it; 25 °C (77 °F) is fine and I turn it off when the house is empty and as soon as the temperature and humidity outside return to more bearable levels.
Still, the AC enables me to knit on in comfort. Ah finally we get to the knitting, I hear you grumble. Fair enough. Yes indeed I do knit - every spare moment and then some. I learned to knit when I was in grade 2, and since I just turned 49 last week, that was a stunning 42 years ago. I took it up seriously when I was in high school and with a few very sparse periods have been at it continuously ever since. So let's begin with what is on the needles now, and over the next little while I will show you other things that I have made.
At the moment I have three projects on the go. One is the second sock (yay!) of a pair that I am knitting for my sister-in-law Liane.
The yarn is Lang Jawoll Cotton Superwash. It is a marled yarn of mostly bright pink with orange and purple. The pattern is Brenda Dayne's Pembrokeshire Pathways Socks.
My second work-in--progress (WIP) is the beaded version of the Shapely Shawlette by Judy Pascale.
The yarn is one of my favourites - Fleece Artist merino. I have knit many things with this yarn. Baby hats, a scarf, another shawlette, a mini-clapotis, and even a pair of socks. The colourways are beautiful and the yarn is irresistably soft, especially after washing. And it's machine washable!
The third project got started last week when I was vacationing at a friend-of-a-friend's cottage. My dear friend Reva had asked me to design and knit her a vest to help "corporatize" her wardrobe. The yarn that we eventually chose was my favourite cotton, Butterfly Super 10. The colour is a lovely periwinkle blue (shade 3882). Pictures will have to wait a few days until I can take it out in the daylight.
